The U15 Eastman South Blizzard won the Provincial AA Championship last weekend and the team is now getting ready for the play-offs.

Assistant Coach Hub Blanchette says it was extra special to defeat the Pembina West Flyers in this year’s Provincial Championship.

“This is my third year on this team and what was exciting for me on the weekend was the fact that we did win, which is great, but two years ago we were in the same position, and we lost in double overtime to the same team.”

Captain Ty Brewster says the Pembina West Flyers were a tough opponent to beat in the championship final last weekend.

“We scored off the first shift which helped us a lot, and then it was very close to the rest of the game, a lot of close goals, but we ended up winning 4-0, so it worked out in our favor,” says Brewster, giving credit to their netminder. “Our goalie was Vander Fehr, he played great.”

Brewster says it’s been an enjoyable season being captain of the team and helping coach the younger players for the Blizzard.

Assistant Captain Tyler Dueck says even though their team is young, they have many players who know the game and love to play.

“Our team is very resilient. We'll get hit and we'll just keep playing. We don't worry about any of that type of stuff. Keep going and win the game. Let them hit us. Doesn't matter.”

Dueck also speaks highly of the comradery on the team, saying the group of guys like spending time together, on and off the ice.
