They old song goes "One is the Loneliest Number" but on Saturday night, the Pistons had a series of "one's" and they were far from lonely in what finished a 1-0 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals.

A pair of firsts for two first year Pistons propelled Steinbach to their second straight road win and second over Virden in as many nights. Jeremy Wik stood tall in recording his first MJHL shutout and Robert Briem (although listed on the MJHL website as Quintin Lisoway, which Briem got quite the laugh over) had the only goal, his first in a Pistons jersey. "Unbelievable feeling to get my first one as a Piston." Briem said after the game.

Rob Smith has taken the head coaching reigns while Paul Dyck is in Edmonton with Team Canada West and Smith knows just how big this win was for his club. "Incredible effort tonight by our guys." Smith said post-game via text. "Short bodies but played a solid road game. Wik was great for us and our penalty kill did a great job and killed a clutch 5 minute major near the end of the game."

Briems goal came with less than 4 minutes to play in the first and the Pistons outshooting the Oil Capitals. It would not only be the only goal scored, it would be the only period in which the Pistons outshot their opponent. Jeremy Wik would make 34 saves on the night, earning the goose egg and first star honors after the game. Smith knows this game does wonders for not just Wik but the whole team. "Definitely gives him a timely boost of belief in himself. I think it also helps take the pressure off the team. We have two good goalies who can play."

The Power play went 0 for 5 while the penalty kill was extremely strong going 5 for 5. The Pistons fired 24 shots on goal.

Ryan Carlson had the lone assist on Briems goal and continues to have a very strong season. The Hermantown, MN native now has 13 points so far this season, one less than he had all of last season.

The Pistons wrap up their road trip with a game on Sunday against Swan Valley and Smith knows his guys will have to come out flying. "Going to be huge for us to turn the page here as it was a pretty emotional game (Saturday). We need to keep our game simple and manage the puck well. Our structure and positioning will especially be important."
