The IceHogs are hosting a charity social this weekend to raise money for Southeast Helping hands.

Ray Petkau says the IceHogs are a special group, as they have been a team for 28 years.

“Most teams aren't together as long as our team has been. Close friendships have been built over the years.”

They are holding the event because they wanted to do something for the community.

"So it's a special event for the group as a team and to give back to the community and do something for Southeast Helping Hands.”

They are looking forward to the social and are excited to have The Boy & The Sea perform.

“They're from the Southeast and they haven't been very active in a few years, but they agreed to play a show here so that's really exciting.”

He says they will have professional sound and lighting, and DJ Brenton will be there.

“And of course he's known around Manitoba, just to get the crowd going and having fun.”

He says they have a lot of great silent auction prizes, as they had lots of businesses and individuals come forward, help out, and donate excellent prizes.

“So we've got things like a PlayStation 5, an iPad, quite a quite a few items signed by The Jets All Star Goalie Connor Hellebuyck, including a one-of-a-kind of painting that he signed, and it's 2 feet by 3 feet, so it's a really beautiful piece.”

They also have Jets tickets, numerous gift cards from local businesses, as well as many other prizes.

Petkau encourages people to come out, have a good time, and support helping hands.

He notes that helping hands often has a hard time around this time of year.

"A lot of people are in the giving mood around Christmas, but a month or two later is when the shelves are more bare and they haven't had as many donations at that time," he says. "We just know there's a need for some assistance at this time and so that's why we chose them.”

The social is on Saturday, February 18th at Friedensfeld Hall. Doors open at 7pm.

The band will be playing at 9pm, and they will have snacks provided at 10pm. The silent auction draw will be at 11pm and last call is at 11:45pm.

“Really, if there's still people having a great time, dancing, and enjoying the music and company of friends we'll be able to keep the party going till 11am.”

Tickets are $20 each. Contact Jacqui to buy tickets. Her email is jacqui@alphahockey.ca.
