The Rest Haven Group in Steinbach has received a cheque from the provincial government for $253,000. Chief Executive Officer David Dredger says the money is for upgrades at Woodhaven Manor, their 55-plus housing facility. He says one upgrade will make the fire panel a modern, fully addressable system. Dredger adds their two elevators will also get attention.

"The elevator modernization includes two things. One is that it will communicate with the fire panel system so, when a fire alarm goes off, the cars will come down to the main level. That's how all new systems work. In addition, the machinery, equipment of the elevator will also be addressed, seeing that the elevators are more than 20 years old."

He says the work will be done this summer or early fall and will take place in stages to minimize any inconvenience. Dredger says they greatly appreciate the funding from the province because these are expensive upgrades.
