The Steinbach Pistons improved their pre-season record to 5-1 with a pair of wins over the Selkirk Steelers over the weekend.

No Goals For You

On Friday night, Piston's goalie Matt Radomsky made 12 saves in 30 minutes of work while Matt Lenz came in and made 4 stops to combine for a 3-0 shutout win.

Selkirk came out strong in the opening minutes but couldn't sustain pressure for long periods as Steinbach began to take over the game, firing shots from all angles.

Radomsky and Steelers goalie Zach Bennett was perfect in the first 20 minutes.

In the second, Steinbach finally broke through when Andrew Warhoftig scored his first of the exhibition season to make it 1-0.

Less than four minutes later, the newest body in camp Brendan Westbrook scored to make it 2-0.

Westbrook was one of the most noticeable players on either side as the winger from Minnesota used his physical type play to keep Selkirk honest and created several chances, including the goal.

In the third, Steinbach put the game away when Tyson McConnell scored to make it 3-0 on the power play.

That would be it for the scoring on Friday night as it ended up a 3-0 final.

Defender Troy Williams had a big game making a couple of fine plays in the d-zone and also collecting a pair of assists. Brayden Clark, Boedey Vaeth, Curtis Ireland and Brady Tatro also had helpers on the night.

The power play for Steinbach had puck control but not a lot of spectacular chances and finished 1-6 while the penalty kill was good finishing 2-2.

Welcome Back, William

On Saturday night, veteran forward Will Koop who's coming into his final season of Junior A hockey, came out to play and finished with two goals and an assist in what finished a 4-1 win in Selkirk.

The Pistons got on the board quickly as before some fans could even find their seats, Brady Tatro notched his first of the exhibition season just 58 seconds in.

Despite outshooting Steinbach, Selkirk had no answer for Radomsky who finished the period a perfect 12 for 12.

In the second, Boedey Vaeth scored just over three minutes into the second period as the lead expand the lead to 2-0.

The lead was cut in half with just 5 minutes left in the period as the Steelers made it a 2-1 game.

However, that's as close as they would get.

In the third, Will Koop struck twice for his first two goals of the pre-season and first goals since returning from injury to seal a 4-1 Steinbach win to end the pre-season.

Assists on the night belonged to Koop, Curtis Ireland, Jack Kilroy, Joey Petronack, Tanner Mole (2) and Brendan Martin

Radomsky played the whole game and finished with a solid 30 saves on 31 shots.

It was a penalty-filled third period as the teams combined for 56 minutes in penalties in that 20 minute period alone.

The Pistons were 0-3 on the power play and 1-2 on the penalty kill.
