The Steinbach Pistons pushed their win streak to 7 straight with back to back wins over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Saturday night and late Sunday afternoon.

Saturday Night Score Fest

The Pistons have been on a hot streak both in the win column and on the scoresheet and it continued with a 9-1 victory over Wayway on Saturday. 

Bradley Schoonbaert (16) got the scoring parade started early in the first as the league leader in points converted on the power play to make it 1-0. Darby Gula picked up the assist on the games first goal.

Braden Purtill picked up his 13th of the year to make it 2-0 with Nolan Ferguson and Brady Tatro getting the assists.

With less than a minute to go in the first period, Schoonbaert struck again for the 17th time this year to push the lead to 3-0. Drew Worrad and Declan Graham were given the assists on the goal.

In the second, Austin Heidemann (8) scored an unassisted power-play goal to make it 4-0.

Tyson McConnell (9) scored an unassisted shorthanded goal to push the lead to 5-0. For McConnell, it was the 4th short-handed goal of his career, leaving him two shorty's away from Pistons all-time leader Justin Augert who has 6 (Augert had 5 in 2012/13).

Will Koop (7), Mark Tarashchuk (4) and Daniel McKitrick (7) all scored in a span of 2:52 as the Pistons exploded to grab an 8-0 lead through 40 minutes. Worrad, Schoonbaert, Ferguson and Purtill each grabbed an assist on a goal scored in that span.

In that second period, the Pistons allowed only one shot against. It was the second time in franchise history that they allowed a single shot on goal in a period.

In the third, the two teams traded goals as the Wolverines broke the Matt Radomsky shutout bid when Wayde Johannesson scored to make it 8-1. 

The final goal of the game came off the stick of McKitrick who netted his second of the contest picking up his 8th goal on the season. Brendan Martin and Purtill had the assists on the 9-1 goal.

Radomsky picked up the win after making 14 saves on 15 shots on goal. The power-play finished 2-7 and the penalty kill went 3-3. 

Deja Vu Sunday Afternoon 

The two teams met again on Sunday and again it was the Pistons coming away with a 6-0 victory.

Darby Gula scored just 1:06 into the game with Drew Worrad and Bradley Schoonbaert getting the assists on the 1-0 goal. It was a close to even period in the shots department as the Pistons outshot Waywayseecappo 10-7 and took the one-goal lead into the middle period.

For a second straight night, the Pistons took over the second period. Will Koop (8) scored early in the period to make it 2-0 Steinbach. Schoonbaert had the lone assist.

Mark Taraschuk (5) scored his second goal in as many games with Koop and Braden Purtill getting the helpers on the 3-0 maker and just 22 seconds later, it was Koop with his second of the game and 9th of the season to make it 4-0. Worrad collected his second assist of the night on the 4-0 goal.

In the third, Danny Pion found the back of the net for the second time this season to make it 5-0 with Gula and Austin Heidemann getting the assists. 

Heidemann (9) scored in his second straight contest to finish the scoring in the game making it 6-0. Koop and Declan Graham had the helpers on the power-play goal.

Matthew Thiessen stopped all 12 shots he faced for his first career Manitoba Junior Hockey League shutout.

The power-play went 1 for 3 and the penalty kill was 4 for 4. The 12 shots allowed match the lowest shots against in a game in Steinbach Pistons history.
