Seven thousand dollars in grants were given to two non-for profit organizations by the Chrysalis Fund last Tuesday.

Brenda Penner, the Secretary on the Chrysalis Fund Board explains that Agape House and Steinbach Community Outreach were selected as the recipients because they each had accumulated the most votes out of all of those that applied for the grant earlier this year.

“The Chrysalis Fund is a women’s giving foundation with over 50 women in the community who have contributed to the fund,” explains Penner to those who do not know, “We are giving out grants to organizations that support women and children and now we are broadening it to families as well.”

Outreach Director Irene Kroeker indicates the $4670 dollar portion they received will be used to purchase more much-needed self-care items like soap and toothbrushes, enabling guests to maintain their cleanliness.

Meanwhile, Carrie Bilawchuk, an outreach programmer at Agape House says that their $2330 in recent funds will be used to finance a new program called the Phoenix Project. “Our intention with this project is to bring together a group of women who have experienced domestic violence and come up with creative solutions that we can put in a booklet and send to our other clients who are still in that journey,” informs Bilawchuk.

Both organizations expressed thankfulness towards the Chrysalis Fund for supporting them through their generous donation.
