Steinbach City Council unanimously approved the conditional use for a new funeral home in the Steinbach North Business Park.

Steinbach Mayor Chris Goertzen observes that Steinbach North is a large development, well suited for this kind of business. “This funeral home is the first application for conditional use we have had in that area. Council was unanimous in approving it because there is a lot of space, and there is ample parking.”

Schinkel Properties Realtor Mike Fast, who put in the request, informs that just because it has been approved does not mean a funeral home will necessarily be put on the site. “This is a proactive approach to make the space available to the widest group of clients possible,” says Fast.

Fast states that Schinkel Properties had recently tried to acquire conditional use for a funeral home elsewhere in Steinbach, but was denied. Goertzen notes that at that point the request was denied because of concerns from people within the neighborhood. “With public hearings, we [like] to hear from the neighborhoods,” explains Goerzen, “and in this case no concerns were raised.”

Ultimately, Goertzen indicates, council's undivided vote alongside no opposition from the community implies that the property fits the request.
