The owner of a bed and breakfast along Ridge Road is being allowed to use that space as an event venue.

On November 8th, Mary-Anne Hart told Hanover council she would like to use her facility and grounds west of Road 32 East, for wedding receptions, corporate events and other similar gatherings, including a future mini rodeo. On Wednesday of this week, Hanover council was unanimous in giving the green light.

"I like what I see," says Councillor Bob Brandt.

But Reeve Stan Toews says there will be restrictions.

For starters, Hart will be required to contact the Office Of The Fire Commissioner for an occupancy permit.

"At the time she indicated maximum would be two hundred," notes Toews. "But we don't know what the Fire Commissioner, what his take is on the area."

The applicant will also need to comply with Hanover's Noise Bylaw. This includes no outdoor activities beyond 11 pm.

And, she will need to provide adequate on-site parking.

"There's no parking on Ridge Road, none whatsoever," says Toews. "They have to provide on-site parking."

At least one nearby neighbour was opposed to the plan. Toews says some of the restrictions address those concerns.

Toews says Hanover has a number of similar venues in the municipality. He notes some have gone over well, while others have fielded complaints.
