The shoulders of Kokomo Road in the RM of La Broquerie will be getting upgraded this summer.

Reeve of La Borquerie Lewis Weiss says the portion of the road between Highway 52 and Loewen Boulevard was re-paved last year and in some areas there is little to no shoulder. Weiss says a few local residents feel this is something that needs work, and after taking a look at the road, the council agrees.

He notes the newly paved surface is very nice and upgrading the shoulder will protect that investment.

"There isn't enough shoulder and we are going to correct those areas and put a proper shoulder there so that the edges of the pavement portions won't be damaged."

Weiss says the ditches that run along Kokomo road may also have some work done.

"It sounds like there could possibly be some ditching happening. I'm not totally sure what would happen there, that is a road that does not have proper ditching everywhere. It is a very high area of the municipality, and it is all gravel so it isn't necessarily required or needed everywhere. Some places they will pull from the ditch to help with the shoulder."

Weiss notes once the shoulder project has been started it should not take more then a few days to complete.

"You just go in there with a skid steer, and if there is no material to use, then they'll dump material there like A-base and then they'll just back blade it to the pavements edge. If they are going to actually do ditching they may hire a high-hoe and they can excavate and pack it into place at the same time."
