The La Broquerie Fire Department was called to two separate grass fires on Borland Road within the span of an hour Saturday morning.

The first fire was called in at approximately 11:15 a.m. north of Highway 52. Fire Captain Darren Dundas says it was a simple grass fire that was mostly contained by the time the fire department arrived.

Dundas says the second fire was around 6 miles south of Highway 52 and was called in at 11:55 a.m. He notes the fire was started accidentally.

“Just a small amount of debris that they were trying to burn caught the surrounding grass on fire.”

Dundas says the fire department was able to contain the fire quickly and was only on scene for approximately 45 minutes.
