Two more municipalities have announced fire bans.

The Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne has put a Level 3 fire ban in place, effective today. Under a Level 3 ban, only fires in enclosed pits are permitted. Violators will be fined.

Then, starting Thursday, April 1st, a fire ban will come into effect for the Emerson-Franklin municipality. This is due to dry conditions and the current weather forecast calling for mild weather and strong winds. All issued burn permits are being revoked. The ban targets the intentional setting of fires in grass, brush and stubble, including agricultural burning. Fires in enclosed backyard fire pits will be permitted, but must be supervised at all times. However, ratepayers are reminded to use caution and should not start a backyard fire in the approved pits if wind speeds are in excess of 16 kilometres per hour. The ban will be in place until conditions improve. Anyone found guilty of starting a fire may be subject to a fine and penalties.

Meanwhile, earlier this week the RM of Piney issued a burn ban. Only recreational fires in compliant pits are permitted.
