The City of Steinbach has completed its capital works projects for the year. The last of them was a sewer line replacement beneath Chrysler Gate, east of Chapel Drive.

Phil Kalyta, the city's head engineer, says the contractor finished the work during the cold, snowy weather that arrived in late October and early November.

"The crews worked really well around the snow and unusually cold conditions and managed to get the concrete and the asphalt in successfully and got the boulevard back-filled with top soil. The only thing we're waiting for is the actual sodding of the boulevards and lawns and that'll happen in the spring."

Kalyta says they had to do some last minute re-design work due to complications with where some of the utility cables were located below ground, but adds it turned out well.

"It actually made it easier to install. We had a sewer that was undersized and the pipe was failing. We ended up with a properly-sized sewer and a really good installation."

Kalyta says the city greatly appreciates the patience of residents who were affected by the construction.
