A section of Loewen Boulevard will be closed to both east and westbound traffic on Friday.

The eastbound lane has been closed from Home Street to Henry Street since the beginning of April as a result of work at the lift station that is right across from the old Steinbach Family Medical building.

Steinbach’s Head Engineer Aaron Rach says “Residents are probably getting used to the current traffic conditions with the temporary traffic plan that has been put into place. [Friday], there is now a planned full closure of Loewen Boulevard between Henry Street and Hospital Street.”

Westbound traffic will be directed to use detour routes through Henry Street or Heritage Parkway to access Highway 12 North. These are indicated in orange on the map above.

Rach says this section will only be closed for one day.

“This closure is to allow the contractor to pull the assembled pipe, which people may have seen alongside the drain on the north side of Loewen. This pipe has to be pulled across the street into the south boulevard and then below grade into where they have drilled an alignment to install that pipe into.”

The westbound lane of Loewen Boulevard will be reopened for Saturday. Rach says crews will then need to install a manhole at the Home Street intersection. He notes they hope to fully reopen Loewen in the near future, but it’s not quite so simple.

“There are some moving parts because we also have our lift station building improvements project going on and they are going to need a partial closure soon as part of that project too. So, the majority of the Loewen single lane should be going away shortly after this force main is pulled into place, but then there will be a shorter-length closure for the lift station building project.”

The City thanks motorists and pedestrians in advance for following all posted signage, exercising caution, and reducing speed in the area.
