Whiteshell Fire Chief Bruce Morrison is giving credit to firefighters after a quick response Sunday to a cottage fire at West Hawk Lake.

The lone occupant of the cottage, on the northwest shore, discovered the blaze around 6:00 a.m. and was able to escape without injury.

Morrison says the building was fully involved, when they arrived, but the lack of wind helped, as they knocked down the flames and had it extinguished within about 20 minutes.

Since the location is accessible only by boat, the fire chief noted the quick response may have helped save the building, although insurers and adjusters will have to determine what can be salvaged.
