Two children under the age of two years old were reported to be abducted by their biological parents on Monday.

The Steinbach parents were said to be visiting their children on a supervised visit in the Rural Municipality of Hanover, but fled the scene.

RCMP patrols were dispatched and located the suspects' vehicle at a residence on Road 29E, south of Roseau River.

Three officers attended the address and say they were met outside by a group of eight individuals who surrounded and physically attacked them.

The outnumbered officers managed to arrest a couple of suspects and vacate the premises without injury.

With the children still in the house and alleged threats made, the area was cordoned off and Highway 59 traffic re-routed down Road 28E.

RCMP, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team, made entry into the residence around 6:00 PM and subdued the remaining suspects.

The parents of the two children are ages 23 and 21 and RCMP say they will face charges of Parental Abduction and Resisting Arrest.

The other six suspects arrested include, a 50-year-old male and 44-year-old female from Roseau River, and four males, a 16-year-old, 17-year-old, 19-year-old and a 24-year-old, all from the RM of Emerson-Franklin.

The six suspects remain in police custody and are facing various charges including Assaulting a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Assault with a Weapon and Aiding and Abetting Parental Abduction.
