Energy drinks eat away at tooth enamel and can lead to tooth decay.

Soda pop's undisputed reign as the worst thing for your teeth may be coming to an end.

According to a study done at Southern Illinois University, energy drinks like Red Bull, Amp and Rockstar are just as bad for your teeth as soft drinks like Coke and Pepsi.  Dr. Luke Singh, owner of Hanover Dental, says although the drink may be different, the culprit is still the same.

"There's just as much sugar in energy drinks as there is in soft drinks.  So yet again, one of the leading causes of cavities is soft drinks, sugar drinks or now energy drinks."

Singh adds that it can be evident if someone has been drinking too many soft drinks or energy drinks.

Dr. Luke Singh says energy drinks are just as bad for your teeth as pop.

"If someone comes in with a lot of cavities in between their teeth, and a lot around the gum line of their teeth, you can ask them if they've been drinking a lot of soft drinks or energy drinks. And they might say yes, and you can just say it's very evident because you see a lot of decay or starting decay in the gum line or in between the teeth."

Other sugary day-to-day foods you should consume in moderation include muffins, cakes and milk.
