There have still been no confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus this year in our province.

However, Culex Tarsalis mosquitoes carrying the virus have been detected in Steinbach, Oakbank, Selkirk, Winkler, Morden, Portage, West St. Paul and Winnipeg.

On Friday, Manitoba Health released the most recent statistics, which are from the week of July 9-15. It shows a drop in the number of Culex Tarsalis mosquitoes trapped in each health region.

For Southern Health, an average of 10 Culex Tarsalis mosquitoes were found per trap that week, which is down from 25 one week earlier. Our province says this measure is an indicator as to whether Culex Tarsalis mosquito populations are rising, falling or staying steady.
