Steinbach's first annual Memory Walk fundraiser will take place Friday June 12th.

The Memory Walk is a province-wide fundraiser for the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. This year there will be 50 individual Memory Walk events across Manitoba.

Spokesperson for the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba Leona Doerksen says registration begins at 10 a.m. At the Pat Porter Centre and the walk will begin at 11 a.m. She notes there will be a barbeque lunch for all participants after the walk.

Doerksen says this is an event for everyone.

"The longest of the walk is about 3 kilometres and that will be going down Brandt Street. We are calling that our Busy Bee Walk. It is a little noisier and a little bit faster pace. We also have a little bit of a shorter, more leisurely walk down Barkman. That will be our Leisure Bee Walk."

Doerksen says 46 percent families in Manitoba have had a close friend or family member that have had Dementia or Alzheimer's Disease.

"All funds raised in the Manitoba Memory Walk stay in Manitoba. They Provide funding for the programs and services provided by the Alzheimer Society, as well as the research that takes place right here in Manitoba. I have been so encouraged by the support that we have already received from people stepping up to volunteer and I am looking forward to a really great first annual Memory Walk."
