Floodwaters in the R.M. of Piney have finally started to recede.

According to Reeve Wayne Anderson, many areas in his municipality received approximately 7 inches of rain between Sunday evening and Wednesday morning. He notes even after the rain stopped falling the water continued to rise as runoff from the forest areas north of Sprague emptied into creeks and ditches. He adds things have started to improve.

"Right now, the flood level is going down but there is still a lot of water around but we are hoping that the forecast holds true and rain is tapering off and we aren't going to get anymore. For now, we have to leave our state of emergency in place just in case it rains again until some of this water abates."
