A weekend trip to the farmers market is never a bad idea, and this Sunday is the day to go.

The La Broquerie Farmers Market is this Sunday, July 30, from 11 AM to 3 PM by the cow on Principale St. Market Coordinator Cheryl Beyak says there will be over 15 vendors on site with various fresh produce, local vendors selling their unique items and music to accompany the scene.

“There's all kinds of different crafts from local vendors, and it's a great way for those businesses to become known in the municipality,” Beyak explains. “There's really something for everybody there. There's snacks from bakers. There's fruit and veggies.”

She adds that La Bikequerie will also be at the market for bike repairs and will have bikes for sale "at a great price."

Beyak says the La Broquerie Farmers Market is more than just a market, it's a community event with opportunities to connect with others and support local vendors and their businesses.

“It just promotes cultural heritage because some of the vendors are bilingual. We have bilingual musicians. It's a community event for people to gather together,”

We will be there with Wendy’s Show Us Your Summer from 11 AM to 1 PM.

The Vassar Pool has seen a lot of action this season. Cassidy Davis of the Vassar Pool says their pool has been around for more than 50 years and that having the pool in their community is “fantastic.”

“Every summer we seem to get more people from even outside the local area,” Davis says. “We're getting people from further and further away, and it's so fantastic to see all these kids taking swimming lessons and learning how to swim. We've started training our own lifeguards, so it's great to have kind of a long-standing legacy of kids that have taken swimming lessons here all the way into lifeguarding.”

They offer public swimming, swimming lessons, lifeguard training and aquacise, which Davis says is “a ton of fun to listen to music and exercise in the water.”

Coming up on Saturday, July 29, from 11 AM to 3 PM is Swim for a Cause, a fundraiser in support of Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue (SAAR). Davis says this is new for their community.

“A lot of people don't know about it that they cover this area, so we're really trying to promote them, and hopefully maybe we'll have some adoptable kitties for people to meet, and we'll have some dogs that have been adopted, that people can see how great a rescue animal can turn out,”

In addition to the animals, they will also have swimming and a barbecue, and proceeds will be shared between the pool and SAAR.
