It is being referred to as the perfect melt this spring in the Rural Municipality of Hanover.

That is according to Wes Fehr, Manager of Public Works and Operations. Fehr says thanks to the weather, the spring thaw has been almost entirely uneventful.

"We've had a few areas that have had a very small pooling of water that just needed a little bit of help just to get it along," explains Fehr. "But more or less, things have been going very smooth."

Fehr says he's not sure that they could have asked for anything better.

That said, Fehr acknowledges the spring thaw is not yet over. He notes more runoff is expected to come from the RM of La Broquerie, from swamps to the southeast. But, he says drains are flowing.

As for road conditions this spring, Fehr says they have been noticing a lot more frost heaves happening in certain areas, including south of Mitchell.

"That tells us that the frost did definitely go deeper than most winters," he says.

Fehr says it is difficult to know how roads will end up this spring, but the fact there was a dry fall could work to their advantage. Fehr says likely towards the end of this week they will start noticing roads getting soft.
