The recreational ice fishing season will soon end in Manitoba's southern division.

Natural Resources and Northern Development Minister Scott Fielding has announced that the season will end at 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 3rd. The southern division is made up of approximately the lower third of our province.

Warren Penner enjoying the great outdoors."As the ice fishing season in southern Manitoba comes to a close, I encourage everyone to enjoy these last remaining days of the season," says Fielding. "After a very long winter, spring break is a great opportunity for Manitoba families to get out and enjoy the outdoors. I encourage everyone to explore our province's world-class fisheries."

Manitobans are reminded to exercise caution around deteriorating ice conditions. Anglers should check ice conditions before travelling onto the ice to ensure a safe and enjoyable fishing experience.

Manitobans are also encouraged to purchase angling licences for the next angling season, which will be available online starting April 1 with the season opening on May 14 in the southern fishing division. All anglers are required to obtain an angling licence to fish in Manitoba unless exempt or fishing within a federal park. Angling licences must be printed, signed and carried while fishing.

For more information on all provincial fishing regulations, refer to the Manitoba Anglers' Guide 2022, available online at www.manitobafisheries.com or in stores where angling licences are sold.
