Island Breeze performs for lunch goers at the corner of Main and Reimer

The Taste Of Summer Charity Barbeque in downtown Steinbach Wednesday raised more than one thousand dollars for Island Breeze.

Isi Masi directs this group through Youth With A Mission. He was overwhelmed by the response.

"It's amazing that we have something like this, I was blown away just with the idea," he says. "All the partners, the people that are involved making this happen. But then just to see the turnout today. It's just amazing. It's a great community for ministries like us."

Isi Masi accepts cheque WednesdayIsland Breeze Manitoba runs a five month Discipleship Training School from May to September. Masi explains they have just completed their twelve week classroom portion and on Sunday will embark on an eight week outreach trip across Manitoba. He says the $1,074.76 raised Wednesday will help with outreach.

"Wow, a blessing, we're very grateful," he says. "Thank you to everybody who came out. Thank you for their support."

Masi says were it not for Wednesday's barbeque, they would have been forced to find this money through other means.

"We would have tried to do a fundraiser or like all the time we pray really hard and wait for that one person to donate," says Masi. "This is huge for us and so it's going to help us a lot."

Masi says in the time he's been in Steinbach, he's come to realize it's a very giving community.

"It comforts us to know that there's a lot of good happening," he says. "But you would think that people would run out of money or they would just run out of love. It is never the case in Steinbach and surrounding communities."
