The Fall Food Drive is wrapping up today, October 6.

Ken Dyck from South East Helping Hands says they are still in great need of food.

"To most people it would look like there is lots of stuff, but it's empty holes all over the place. It looks like lots but it disappears quick because we're feeding 400 families now every two weeks."

Damian Penner from Rocco's Pizza is one of many people who have been helped by South East Helping Hands.

Penner is no stranger to giving, as Rocco’s has been heavily involved with fundraising for different organizations.

He says it’s great to be part of something bigger than himself.

“We're an independent local restaurant owned by my wife and myself, we're local born and raised, and it's just so important that we give back to community organizations.”

The Fall Food Drive is an especially important organization to Penner, as he depended on South East Helping Hands as a kid.

“My mother and I, we were dependent on South East Helping Hands for Thanksgiving suppers, for Christmas dinners, and so we've volunteered there. We took the support from them and it's our turn now to give back.”

He emphasizes that with all the talk of giving, you should not feel shame if you can’t give at this time.

“We're known as one of, if not the most, generous city across Canada. And that's not to say that there aren’t individuals that do need assistance, and they do need help, and there's absolutely no shame in asking for that.”

If you are able to support, bring non-perishable food items to the Clearspring Centre outside of Sobeys from 9am-6pm today.

South East Helping Hands, AM1250, MIX 96.7FM, and COUNTRY 107.7FM will be there collecting.
