A man from La Broquerie has been charged for allegedly breaking into homes and sheds in Altona.

On Monday, officers were responding to a report of a suspicious person running through backyards, jumping fences and attempting to break into sheds in the southeast corner of town.

Shortly after arriving on scene, police were advised that the suspect had also unlawfully entered a home. The homeowner removed him from the premises.

The officers began to search for the lone man, and soon found him attempting to break into a shed.

While police were dealing with the suspect, they were approached by another homeowner in the area who told them that this same person had entered their home and hid momentarily in a closet before fleeing the house.

When arrested, the suspect, who police say was intoxicated at the time, told officers repeatedly that he was being chased and feared for his safety.

As a result, a 29 year old man from La Broquerie has been charged with two counts of forcible entry.

He has been released on an undertaking with conditions and will face a court date in Altona in the future.
