The La Broquerie Fire Department responded to a lot more grass fires last year compared to the previous 12 months.

Fire Chief Al Nadeau says the statistics from last year indicate there were 22 grass fires that required support from fire crews, compared to only 8 grass fires in 2020.

It was a dry spring and the grass fire season started early with a brief reprieve after a late snowfall.

The building will have six bays to accommodate giving adequate space for current vehicles while providing space for growth.

“We’ll be about a mile and a quarter closer to Marchand but we’re just south of town,” says Nadeau, adding that the move will be just enough to get them a bit closer to Marchand while still allowing them to have quick response times to the calls near Hirschfeld Road.

“It kind of centralizes us a little bit more,” he says.
