A local pop-punk band called Beneath The Surface is playing at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre this Saturday.

Anemone Toews is from Mitchell and is the bassist. Then Benjamin Field and Ryan Hildebrand are the guitarists and they are from Steinbach and Ste. Anne. Then they also have a drummer from Transcona.

Hildebrand says they have been playing together for over two years.

“It's been a while. It's only been starting to pick up though in the past year maybe.”

The band started with Field and his cousin.

“And then we heard about Ryan through his younger brother and it just kind of snowballed from there. Ryan knew Anemone through school, and he knew our drummer Liam through summer camps and stuff, and it just kind of clicked.”

Hildebrand says there will be four bands at this weekend’s concert, the other bands being Seventh String, Live Wires, and Twenty-Four.

“Ranging from classic rock to pop punk to metal to a rock funk jam band. It's going to be real fun. We've got more planned than just music, there's going to be cookies if that's a determining factor for you.”

Beneath The Surface will have their first line of merch will be available at the show.

They are currently working on some singles they hope to release in the next few months, and are hoping to release an album by the end of the year.
