Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach wants to sell some of its property to pay down debt.
The plan is to sell a 310 foot wide strip along Golfair Road which includes much of the duck pond. However, the move requires an amendment to Steinbach's development plan and city council has denied first reading. Councillors say the idea appears to be at odds with the Museum's earlier proposal to turn the facility into a public park in exchange for a larger grant from the city. They also question whether it would make sense to have commercial or residential property sandwiched between the Museum and the golf course. City council will ask MHV to provide more information before reconsidering the amendment.
