A couple of partial road closures in Steinbach may add a few minutes to your evening commute.

City Engineering Technologist Russ Mehling says the concrete ditch along Hespeler Street is being extended over the course of the next week to improve drainage. During that time, both lanes along Hespeler will remain in use, however, they will be shifted further from the ditch for the safety of workers and their equipment.

Meanwhile, Mike Heppner of Steinbach Waterworks says a water main break on Fourth Street has forced the closure of that roadway between Barkman Avenue and Lumber Avenue. The break happened last night and, as Heppner explains, is likely due to the cracking of some old cast-iron pipe joints. The affected block, which includes six homes and one apartment complex, is expected to have full services restored by 8 PM tonight.

Steinbach Public Works crews will be extending the concrete ditch bottom for the next week.
