The Rural Municipality of Morris is providing residents an opportunity to get rid of their E-Waste. E-Waste is a term used to describe electronics such as computers, televisions or VCRs that have reached the end of their useful life.

Reeve Ralph Groening says the municipality took the initiative of purchasing a trailer that will serve as a collection site. The trailer is located at the Rosenort landfill and will be available during operating hours. "We hope to be able to provide opportunity for people to minimize the impact on our landfill sites by dumping the electronic materials in the regular dump sites," says the Reeve.

The municipality has been in discussion with the company that provides their recycling pickup. "They will be working with us to come up with a plan for the cost," says Reeve Groening. "But we don't anticipate that it's going to be a major cost."

Reeve Groening says this wasn't something that ratepayers had been asking for but rather something council took upon itself to set up. "We identified the need. And I appreciate council emphasizing that we should take a proactive step and provide a collection site and so it was out of that initiative that we decided to go ahead."

The trailer has been in place for about a month. There is no fee for residents dropping off their E-Waste. E-Waste is packaged and shipped off where it's mined and often used for things like making new computers.
