Seine River School Division Superintendent Mike Borgfjord

Looking back over 2016 the Superintendent of the Seine River School Division says a lot of exciting things have happened.

Mike Borgfjord says he's delighted by the progress of the iPad learning project, and the growth they've seen in other areas. "I'm really pleased with the hard work our teachers are doing, putting an increased emphasis on mathematics in our schools, here we've been seeing some tremendous results and growth in the last year."

Borgfjord notes teachers have also been working hard to provide extra emphasis in the area of sports, music, arts, and drama. “I think there is a lot to be excited about, we are in year two of our dramatic arts project, where last year we hired an individual to do middle years drama, supporting teachers and using drama to increase thinking and literacy.”

He adds the arts program has also been very successful as it continues to grow and evolve into an integral part of the regular curriculum. "I think we are building on the things we have established over the last four or five years and we're really starting to see some good momentum and some real positive change."

Along with steady growth, which Borgfjord notes is exciting, there can be challenges. He says there were some modular classrooms that weren't ready in time for the start of the school year, so they had to get creative in Lorette when it came to classroom space. The modular classrooms are scheduled to be ready early in the new year.
