It's been 7 long years since the Manitoba Conservatives enjoyed this kind of popularity.  A poll in mid-June shows the Conservatives ahead of the NDP for the first time since 1999.  The Conservatives had the support of 43 per cent of those surveyed compared to 38 per cent for the NDP and 13 per cent for the Liberals.  Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen credits several factors.  He says the party has worked very hard to regain the favour of voters.  Goertzen adds Manitobans are becoming disgruntled with the Doer government over issues like health care, overspending on the floodway and a failure to get tough with criminals.  Furthermore, he says the federal Conservatives have made a good impression by promising good policies and then following through.
