It's not the kind of record you'd brag about.  Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen says Manitoba is on pace to match the all time record for most vehicles stolen in one year in our province.  Goertzen feels the Doer Government is focusing too much time on the victims of auto theft and not enough time on stopping it.  He says studies indicate if you want to reduce crime you must increase the chance of getting caught, increase the punishment and make sure the punishment comes soon after the crime.  Goertzen says that's not the case in Manitoba.  He says BC and Saskatchewan have reduced auto theft through strong curfew checks and a bait car program.
