With the summer street construction season now in full swing, the Rural Municipality of Hanover has announced four paving projects planned yet for 2017.

Rob Driedger is Manager of Engineering and Utilities. He notes there are two projects in Mitchell, with the first already underway. Crews have begun the task of paving the Peters Lane service road. Driedger says this is a partial full depth reconstruction. Crews will realign the boulevard so that it lines up with the existing Peters Lane. That will be followed by a 75-millimetre lift of asphalt overlay. Driedger says there is about 150 to 200 metres needing to be paved from Willow Street west at a cost of about $55,000. Driedger says he expects that work to be completed within two weeks.

Following that, crews will pave Centre Street North, from Stahn Field north. Driedger says this will be a full depth reconstruction, followed by a 75-millimetre lift of asphalt. The stretch to be paved is about 350 metres long at a cost of about $145,000. Driedger says he expects it might take one week to complete.

In New Bothwell, the plan is to pave Park Bay Road. Driedger explains Park Bay Road will have some old asphalt removed, with a new base and asphalt poured overtop. On the southern loop of Park Bay, they will add one foot of limestone, making it more accessible and easier for people to get in and out of the recreation facility area. According to Driedger, there is about 400 metres of work there. He expects crews will start in the next week or two. The cost of that project is about $87,000.

And, the final paving project this year happens in Grunthal. Driedger says later this summer they will pave a small asphalt walking path along Oak Avenue and Church Avenue at a cost of about $35,000.
