The toboggan slide in New Bothwell was damaged in Sunday night's thunderstorm.

Jason Peters is Manager of Recreation and Community Services for the Rural Municipality of Hanover. He says strong winds are to blame.

"Basically pulled the whole slide right off the tower structure and flipped it on its side and took it down," reports Peters.

According to Peters, it looks like the main structure of the slide is still okay and so it does not appear to be a major repair.

"It looks like some of the structure posts and the framing may be damaged and need to be replaced," says Peters. "But the actual core of the slide looks like it will be okay."

Though a damage estimate has not been provided, Peters says the Community Centre Board in New Bothwell will be responsible for the repairs. If it proves to be more costly than expected, the board may request help from the RM of Hanover.

Peters notes there is no timeline for the repairs.

"As long as it's up and functioning by the time we have snow, everyone will be happy," he says. "Hopefully in the next week to two weeks, we can get something done there."

The toboggan slide was part of a park redevelopment last year and opened for the first time last winter.
