Council in the RM of Hanover has approved a plan to clean out some of the sewer pipes in Blumenort. Reeve Stan Toews says they contracted with a company to send a camera through the network of sewer pipes and it found some partial blockages from tree roots.

"We found there were some roots in some of the old clay pipes. So council has undertaken that we will be hiring something like a roto-rooter company. They will be cleaning out the pipes. We'll be doing that in about three phases over the next three years, doing one-third each year, so that we get more life out of those pipes before they have to be replaced."

The camera found some locations where tree roots are growing into sewer pipes on private property. Council says those homeowners will be notified and they will be responsible to have those sections of pipe cleaned out.

Toews adds the cameras also found some sewer pipes in Blumenort that have cracks which will require attention at some point in the future.
