Two young men from the southeast were charged on Sunday for street racing in Steinbach.

One of them is an 18-year-old resident of Steinbach, while the other is an 18-year-old from Vassar.

According to Steinbach RCMP, both drivers were charged with racing a motor vehicle, which carries a fine of $672. They both received a serious offence notice, which mandates a license review with Manitoba Public Insurance. Both of their vehicles were towed and will be impounded for seven days.

The man from Vassar had been charged an hour earlier for making unnecessary noise and had been warned regarding street racing. He had also been charged for a traffic offence two days earlier.

Police say in addition to these charges, there were 19 other traffic offence charges levied over the weekend.
