An event is coming up in La Broquerie that will guide seniors in accessing support services in the rural areas.

A Wellness Conference and Expo for Seniors is planned for Thursday, March 14th.

“It’s a day to educate older adults as well as their family members or caregivers on services that are available around the area, and also to enjoy some activities,” says Melanie Bremaud, Senior Resource Coordinator at Seine River Services for Seniors.

She notes there will also be a few guest speakers.

Bremaud says an event like this can be helpful in connecting people to services that will help seniors to live independently in their homes.

She notes transportation and mobility aids are some topics that frequently come up.

“Steinbach now has three places for mobility equipment rental and there's also the Pat Porter Centre (PPALC), so things are moving along a bit, but I find that in the rural area there is very little to do in terms of activities and promoting an active, healthy lifestyle as well as accessing some services that might be a little more specialized.”

There is no cost to attend the full-day conference and expo, but donations will be accepted for the food bank.

And Bremaud notes lunch will be provided.

There will be a variety of booths at the expo, where you can meet with representatives about rent relief, protection against fraud and scams, and learn about medical conditions that can impact driving.
