The president of the South East Sno-Riders says their trails are in excellent condition right now.

Mitch Gobeil notes snowmobilers are loving all of the snow we have received this winter and they have been coming out en masse.

The only issue we have run into is when the wind gets up there and causes snowdrifts and Murphy's Law says they happen after we groom. The snow is fantastic. Every bit of our trails, all 530-some-odd kilometres are all open."

Vice President and avid snowmobiler Roland Fillion agrees. He says he hasn’t seen this much snow in decades and he’s already put over 1,800 miles on his sled.

"Trails have been just fantastic. The snow conditions, trail conditions, they’ve been awesome pretty much everywhere I have been."

Fillion describes the difference between this year and last year as “night and day”. He adds the cold weather has also helped create ideal conditions.

"It has kept the snow fairly soft everywhere you go. It is not hard-packed and whatnot. There are drifts that are still hard, you have to be careful out there but for the most part, it has been relatively soft and powdery and it is like the snowmobile's delight."

In order to make the most of the snowfall, Gobeil says their team is constantly grooming.

Gobeil says you never know what might be under the snow. Our groomer, as we have mentioned before, basically goes from Sunday afternoon until Thursday midday. It goes just about 24/7, not quite, but just about for those days."

Gobeil says he is more than happy to see riders take advantage of this spectacular winter, however, he would like to remind snowmobilers to be careful out there.

"There was another fatality on the weekend and that is two in two weekends, which is not good. We had, not a serious incident, but we had a deadfall on the trail before the snow this past week and the snowmobiler hit the deadfall and nobody got hurt and no damage on the snowmobile but you got to be careful. You can go really fast down the trail but you never know what is underneath that snow, you never know what is laying around the curve on the trail."
