The Steinbach Chamber of Commerce board has a new president.

Tim Schmitt, owner of Oakleaf Promotions, says he joined the chamber in 2012 and was promoted over the years, gaining experience and responsibility until being named vice-president in 2015 and then president earlier this month.

"There's kind of an overall system at the chamber that we've tried to work towards, promoting from within and growing those next levels," explains Schmidt. "I joined the chamber as a member of a committee, I then became a board member and sat on a committee. I became a chair of a committee and then eventually joined the executive as the vice-president and then continued on to become president."

Schmitt says the board is currently in the midst of planning what the future will look like, but is excited as there are many good things happening in the business community.

He notes the growth of membership is something he has been glad to see.

"It's a big thing for me because I was part of the membership committee for a while. For me personally, seeing not only more members but the engagement of those members, business people getting to know other business people, finding out about other businesses in town and what they provide, it's just really cool to see that success happening."

Schmitt adds there were four members who have left the chamber - Evan Funk, Gemma Brown, Matt Wieler, and Mike Fast - and he thanks them for all their hard work and their contributions to the health of the overall business community in Steinbach.
