The frequent snowfall is keeping city crews busy, and the gusting wind is adding to the challenge.

Public works department head, Randy Reimer, says it seems they barely finish clearing streets and sidewalks and they have to start all over, again.

This leaves little to no time for removing the snow piles from boulevards and that can create challenges for motorists.

"People trying to go through intersections and stuff, it makes it really difficult to see,” Reimer explains.

Randy Reimer says it's a priority to clean up snowbanks from boulevards in loading zones at schools and the hospital.

It’s also a problem for pedestrians, especially around the hospital and school zones where people are being dropped off or picked up.

Reimer notes those areas are a priority for them and he hopes to get those snowbanks cleaned up as soon as possible.

Another issue is the wind, creating snow drifts on streets and sidewalks. Reimer says we have a lot of sidewalks and walking paths which needs frequent clearing.

Quite often, walking paths are requiring daily clearing due to snow drifts.

There are also piles of snow growing in city owned parking lots as well as in cul-de-sacs, which there are over 50 in Steinbach.

While there’s no concern that we’ll run out of space to dump all the snow, Reimer says there just doesn’t seem to be enough time to actually pick up the snow piles.
