The fifth annual 'Out Of The Blue' campaign launched at the Shevchenko School in Vita on Friday.

Kim Heidinger, Chair of the Southern Health Suicide Prevention Committee says it was a fantastic event.  Heidinger explains the campaign is a mental health awareness and suicide prevention program geared towards youth, specifically grade ten students.  Heidinger there was a lot of excitement in Vita during the event.

"The launch particularly is fun becasue, like I said, Robb Nash was performing there and he does an excellent performance and talk about suicide prevention and general well-being for youth.  Then we take students outside for the balloon launch and we release bio-degradable balloons into the air to kick off the event.  So there was a lot of excitment at the school about this event, the kids have really enjoyed it and the teachers have gotten involved.  Most of the school was wearing blue, so there was a lot of excitment around this event."

Heidinger adds they will be visiting Morris School, Ste Anne Collegiate, Ecole Saint Joachim in La Broquerie and the Institut Collegial De St Pierre in St Pierre before the Gala on May 7, 2015 at the St Pierre Recreational Centre.

She explains they are wanting to extend the campaign out into the community so they are more aware of suicide prevention and mental health as well.
