RE/MAX in Steinbach is marking its 25th anniversary this year. Keith Taylor, one of the former owners, recalls how he and three others brought the franchise to this city in the early 1990's.

Keith Taylor"I was in real estate about five years and a group of us, four individuals, Bill Sawatzky, Paul Friesen and Henry Derksen and I, all got together with one of the Winnipeg RE/MAX offices and decided that might be the way to go; with a franchise. So we went that way and never looked back."

Taylor says they intentionally kept the office small for over two decades and met with a lot of success.

"I must say I've been very fortunate in the business over the 30 years that I've been in it. I've probably seen a couple of other dips in the market, we're seeing a slowdown in the market for the last, probably, 18-24 months, so hopefully we're coming to an end of that and will get back to the normal growth that we've been accustomed to and spoiled with."

Taylor says a couple of years ago they sold the franchise to Keith and Wes Unger who were keen to grow the operation. Taylor adds it has worked out well for him as he continues to sell real estate in addition to running his land development business.

Keith Unger notes the future of any successful business is closely tied to the future success of the community in which it is located and because of that he is optimistic for the future.

"We are fortunate to live and work in a place that is home to people who are entrepreneurial, dedicated to their families and dedicated to their community. We like to think we reflect those values as a business as well and the positive outlook for southeast Manitoba makes me very optimistic about our next 25 years."
